Garland Phone Books

I know it's not Dallas, but i have exhausted all my other resources. I am looking for anyone who has a copy of/access to a 1970's Garland Yellow Pages. I am looking for a specific ad that was in them at the time, one for my stepdad's business (and the cheesy picture of him that was in the ad!).

I have had lots of suggestions to check out the Garland library as they have all the phone books but I am overseas and it isn't possible until I come home in October for a visit. They have a website, but I couldn't find any links to their archives there.

Anyone here have any ideas? If you do have access, his business was McGee's Automotive on 15th Street in Garland.

Thanks in advance for your help.

i can't help with the Yellow Pages because I'm 200 plus miles from the Garland Library, but I have to ask if he was the same McGee who had a Mobil service Station at the intersection of Skillman and Live Oak?

No, not the same one. I think the one you are referring to might have been Herman McGee who later had a garage over off of Columbia.

Perhaps his name was Herman. I only knew him as Mr. McGee. My Dad would not have his car serviced, or buy gas anywhere else in Dallas but Mr. McGee's Magnolia Station. There was a Texaco across a side street on the same side of Skillman. They once had a promotion, giving away fireman's hats to kids whose parents got a fill-up. I never got one of those hats, because my Dad was afraid that Mr. McGee would look across the street and see him buying gas from a competitor. Scarred me for life winking smiley

Mike, I can remember airing up my bike tires at that Texaco. it's on the corner of Skillman and Lewis. It's an auto repair shop now, but still has the Texaco sign up. Across Lewis is a Texaco mini mart - I think that's where the Mobil was. My mom always bought gas at the Enco (later Exxon) Car Care Center at Skillman and Live Oak, and had her cars serviced there some times. That location is now a liquor store.
