My father who is deceased played the guitar at the Debonair for many years. His name was Joe Cook. Does anyone remember him or have any stories I would appreciate it.

Sherry there is a Debonair Danceland Facebook site now that you should join. I hope the link I copied works for you. They are planning a reunion sometime this year but the site is new so they want more people to get linked in.

There is a Facebook page set up for Debonair Danceland in East Dallas. If you spent some time, had some fun and would like to join in on the following of the Debonair, please link in. There is a reunion being planned for this year but no exact date or location to date.

Pictures taken back in the day would be an added bonus to the Debonair Facebook page. Feel free to post pictures of you or friends taken at the Debonair. Dennis Norman set the page up last week and so far there are upwards of 70 people linked.

Just for record there was only one bomb that ever went off at the Debonair and it happened in the early morning on Sunday when the place was closed. That was done by jealous competitors.

I have many MANY good memories of the debonair. I know in the evenings i was aways brought cherries but never was aloud out of the office. Im earls grandaughter. My mom actually met my dad there and going to grade school in mesqute alot of my friends parents met there. lol But as we all know NOBODY died in the bombing and when the club was built that was the nice part of dallas it was the place to be.. I know my grandfather had partners that all came and went. Yes there was a motorcross team named after it Jimmy Martin my uncle was awesome on a bike! the Debonair danceland name came from the band my grandfather played in the debonairs.. One thing i can Say is that my grandfather is the best man i have ever known and had all his partners through the years been that way we might still have the place.

If I remember correctly the Debonaires originally played at the Southern Club on Military parkway. It was down the street from the Palms, I kind of remember when they left the Southern Club and I thought it was James Colthorp that opened the Debonaire Danceland that had once been a grocery market (not sure}. I moved to San Diego and my Sister sent me a news paper clipping when it blew up.When i came home for a visit the club had been rebuilt and was twice as big as it had been. I remember a newspaper story about the 4:00 housewives that would be in the Debonaire and left at 4:00 to get home in time to cook dinner for their husbands. I was glad to read these postings.I had a friend "C.B. Oliver that played with the Debonaires at one time.

Anyone who knows how to get in touch with Janet or Jimmy Martin (Earl's children) PLEASE put them in touch with me - I lost touch with Janet when I changed Facebook accounts. Last time we talked (a long time ago) she was in Arkansas...

Thanks so much!

I met Loretta several years ago and knew James Coltharp. One of the other posts stated that no woman ever owned part of the Danceland was that person correct? James introduced to Loretta. I understand he bought another nightclub back in the 60s, do you remember the name of it? I think it was one of Jack Ruby's clubs at one time.
