Oak Cliff High Schools

My husband and his half brother were separated when they were toddlers. We found him a few years ago in a cemetey in east Texas. His name was Charles Ronald Patton, b. Jan 10, 1942; he probably went by Ronnie Patton. We now know he grew up in Oak Cliff. Does anyone have old yearbooks from elementary, jr high, or high school that he would be listed in. I know there were several high schools in Oak Cliff back then, and have no idea which one he would have attended.

Thank you,
Sandra Van Wyk

Sandra,
This is quite a needle in a haystack.
I could not find anything in the universe from vital records (birth in Edna, TX as posted elsewhere could not be confirmed) to newspapers, etc.
My suggestion, if you are local, is to go to the 7th floor of the downtown library and look in old city directories for the Van Wyk's address (or Patton) and go from there. With that, and estimating that he would have been in high school in about '57, his high school could be determined by neighborhood. Then, also on the 7th floor are extensive High School Annuals that could be searched.

If a phorum user has a city directory from the late 50's, this could also be of help.

If you are not local, I will volunteer to help, time permitting. Send PM via the phorum.

I really appreciate your reply and suggestion. I can go to the Dallas Public Library and look thru the city directories, never thought of that. You're right, an address would narrow down the schools in that neighborhood.
Thanks,
Sandra

Please let the DHS Phorum know the results of your research, including myself.

I looked thru ancestry.com but didn't find his dad or grandparents in the city directories around that timeframe, 1950's early 60's. I did find a Woodrow Wilson 1931 yearbook, with a picture of what I think is a ROTC group, and I believe his father is listed in the picture. There were several pictures of different "Company" groups. The father was born 1915, so his age would fit the ROTC group.

I will let you know what I find. I don't get to the Dallas library often so it may be a while before I go there. And Joel, thank you so much for your gracious offer to go to the library for me. That is the extra mile.

Sandra -

Your name is familiar and I believe we may have corresponded before, perhaps the Texas Cemeteries mail list.

I have the 1943 and a 1955 Greater Dallas Telephone Directories. Each have 30-40 "Patton" listings (assuming that was his parents' surname).

I can scan the pages and e-mail if you will contact me direct

There is a Ronald Patton listed in the Jan.graduating class in the 1954 Sunset Sundial.. He was a regimental commander in the ROTC, a member of the Jody drill team and the student council. Could this possibly be him?

Thanks for checking. The age wouldn't work out. He was born 1942, and probably graduated 1960-1961.
